Welcome to my website:

Okinawa Japan is one of the most beautiful places on earth. It is warmed by the Kuroshio "Black Current" which is similar to America's Gulf Stream. As a result, we enjoy warm temperatures pretty much year round. The Prefecture Capital City of Naha sits at roughly the same latitude as Miami Florida. This makes our summers as one recently retired Marine I met so eloquently put it "Stupid Hot" but our winters are quite mild and we enjoy the great outdoors pretty much year round.

The main island is roughly 68 miles long north to south. Width varies greatly but averages around five miles wide and is home to more than a million people not counting all the U.S. military folks stationed here. The vast majority of the population lives on the southern third of the island. Aside from the locals, the large numbers of Japanese and American military, the place is also becoming a very popular tourist attraction for people from across the Far East. of Okinawa

Okinawa is more than just my place of residence. It’s become my adopted home, learning about its people, the history and culture started as a hobby and has evolved into one of my passions. As a result, in all of my Okinawa related articles and blog posts, I try to enlighten readers as well as entertain. My view of Okinawa, aka “The Goya Republic” as well as its people is, to put it mildly, a romanticized version of life in the slow lane with a dash of nostalgia added for seasoning.

This site is primarily to showcase my work as a writer and photographer. You’ll be able to see that best by checking out the appropriate pages of this site. Readers looking for Okinawa information are invited to take a look at my other website “GoyaRepublic.com” by clicking the link provided. I review the attached links and blogs regularly and sites that are not maintained are promptly removed from my listings. Like you I find it frustrating to click on a link only to find that it was closed several years before.

While there are many websites on Okinawa, my goal with the Goya Republic site is to make it the “Go-To” place for Okinawa related information. My list of links and blogs is not the most comprehensive. Instead my goal is to make it the best “English Language” source for Okinawa related information.
