Photograffy and Photo Essays
When I retired form active duty, my brothers and sisters all chipped in and bought me a pocket sized and relatively inexpensive point and shoot digital camera. If we had only known then what we know now? The idea was to take some photos and send them back via email. I found that I enjoy photograffy (spelled that way on purpose) and am endeavoring to learn more each day.
When I started writing for Stripes Okinawa as a stringer, I new immediately that my little camera was taken to its functional limits. I upgraded to an advanced point and shoot and stayed with the Sony brand. For the next year-and-a-half I used a Cybershot DSC-H7. For anyone wanting to learn photograffy and shooting in manual, this is an excellent camera to start with. It has a full range of capabilities, is lightweight and a very comfortable camera to use. But using this camera only got me deeper into the camera bug. You could even say photograffy became an addiction.
Since then I’ve graduated to a Pentax DSLR. I love this brand for its all weather capabilities. The seals on Pentax are superior to what you’ll find on either Cannon or Nikon. Those are also outstanding cameras but Okinawa is an island and as such, the weather changes every five minutes. If you do a lot of outdoor shooting, which I do, then perhaps you should consider a Pentax too.
